hpcritique@yahoo.comThere are a lot of Harry Potter stories out there. Most of them suck. Yet quite a few of them are actually halfway decent. It's insidious, really, how all of this promise and unfulfilled potential serves to keep me locked in place, checking the archives day after day. I am ever hopeful of finding a new gem, or of discovering that a particular author's writing skills have suddenly improved with the next chapter.
I have no idea whether this LJ will have any sort of impact on the latter, or whether I'll be able to keep up the practice of reviewing. What I do know is that a) sometimes I feel the need to rant (or rave, of course), and b) I'd like to have one place to deposit all of my thoughts on the various stories I encounter.
A few notes about me and my reading preferences:
- As long as it's well-written, I'll read (and usually like) any pairing and any character.
- My definition of "well-written" can be pretty particular, but the basics are: correct usage of grammar, imaginative storytelling and/or insightful characterization.
- I welcome comments on my reviews, including those registering vehement disagreement, but don't expect me to respond to every single one.
- I also welcome suggestions of stories to read and review, but I probably won't have time for all of them. Bonus points for stories that are actually finished.
